The City of Ember by Jeanne DuPrau
Ember is a light in a world of darkness. No one is poor or rich. Everyone survives, but things are running low. After 12 years of schooling, each child is assigned a job. Lina desperately wants to be a messenger. Doon wants to be a pipeworks helper. The pipeworks are where the generator is. The generator is where lights and electricity are made. Doon thinks if he's near them, he could possible save Ember. This book is very exciting from the moment the jobs are drawn out of the hat and the time Lina finds a torn message.

If I said anything about this book, it would spoil the first book. But, I really like this book. It teaches a lesson, is very interesting and exciting. One simple kind thing could save a village.

I loved the cliffhanging-ending of the first book... but in my opinion I didn't like how boring the people of sparks was. I just didn't think it was so "fun"... I'm not trying to be mean or anything I just want to share my opinion so other people know how other people feel ;) Don't have to publish this if ya don't wanna.
