Mary, Queen of Scots: Queen Without a Country by Kathryn Lasky
by emma
Mary was crowned Queen of Scotland at 9 months old. She was betrothed to Francis of France when she was 4. Now she lives in the French court learning the French ways, preparing to become a Queen, and having fun. She is lucky because Francis is also one of her best friends. She has many friends at court: Elizabeth and Claude, Francis's younger siblings, and the 4 Marys. They are good, loyal friends, all named Mary. But, there are people at court Mary doesn't like, Queen Catherine, who is mean and prideful; and the musician, who is not very nice either. But, no matter how good things are at court, there is a part of Mary that is always sad. She has been separated from her mother and her homeland since she was 4 years old. This is an interesting book that makes you feel like you are the princess.
