Rules, by Celia Lord
Emma
Catherine's brother, David, has autism. He needs rules for everything - from don't put toys in the fish tank to don't take your pants off in public. Catherine wishes her brother was "normal". But soon Catherine will find out what "normal" is. First, she meets Jason, a boy in a wheelchair who can't speak at David's Occupational Therapy. She befriends him when she starts drawing pictures and words for his book. Then Kristi moves in next door. Catherine has always dreamed of this - the perfect best friend. But Kristi doesn't understand David, and cares about other things. What will Catherine do when they all meet each other? I really liked this book. Catherine has a fresh, funny voice, like someone you could talk to easily, and I loved seeing how things happened to her.
